What happened
By late 1923 the German mark had collapsed into hyperinflation, wiping out monetary stability, ruining savings, and forcing emergency currency stabilization through the introduction of the Rentenmark.
Why it matters
Weimar hyperinflation is one of the most important early shocks of the post-World War I settlement because it discredited republican governance, intensified social grievance, and helped shape the political culture out of which later authoritarian solutions gained strength.
Notes
Use this as the earliest major economic-political rupture in the interwar crisis sequence, especially for the German case.
